A good producer is many things. I should know.

 about me

Creative curiosity. Energetic leadership. Humility, empathy and respect. Insider knowledge that ensures company cultures are the best they can be.

I worked my way up the ranks starting as a runner. From there I've been a good producer. I’ve hired good producers. Good producers hired me. I've seen and experienced first-hand what it takes, and continue to learn and develop myself as our industry changes, and new voices seek to tell their story.

Now, I’m sharing the experience I've gained over the last 25 years, to bring together go-getting, dynamic, change-making talent from all walks of life, with agencies and brands hell-bent on challenging the status quo and creating something incredible.

But for me, my work and passions run beyond recruitment.

I thrive on variety and harness that energy to support a range of companies on a pro-bono basis. I joined SHINY as non-executive director in 2019, a network for emerging directors from underrepresented groups. Playing my part alongside the inspiring Caroline Bottomley to develop strategy, spread the word and help build a following and future legacy for the organisation.

I am the trustee for CBB, a rural community development agency . My remit is to help bolster their reach and fundraising opportunities, delivering current campaigns surrounding loneliness and fuel poverty this winter. I'm also N.E.D for an equestrian start-up, combining my love of riding and passion for supporting businesses with ambition.

“My work in production has taught me “no” is not an option and those skills mean so much potential”

This is why I dedicate considerable time to mentoring talented young people not afraid to graft in order to advance their careers (just like I did).

I provide virtual mentoring through "The Girls Network" with young girls in the North West (where I grew up) about the viability of jobs in the creative sector for people who are prepared to work hard, listen hard and do a job that’s hugely rewarding. I also work with London-based mentor programmes Creative Access and Who's Your Mamma meeting two other young people and learning as much from our sessions as they do.

Alex Hedges Post Production Jobs in advertising

I have spent my whole career working my way up the advertising production ladder. Working with some of the most acclaimed production companies in the world. I have also turned my hand to producing for agencies such as Mother, BBH, Iris, JWT. In 2014 I joined Saatchi & Saatchi as Head of Content to build an in-house production arm that would match the creative ambitions of the agency. This department achieved tremendous success, evolving into a team of 25 wonderful producers, editors and assistants all pedalling at 100mph and delivering for clients and creatives with equal emphasis.

My last full-time role was as Managing Director of the superlative editing house The Assembly Rooms. A position that allowed me to bring together all the strands of my experience. As things do, my life began to take a different path, and the realities of how much flex I need from my work life became very obvious. A recruiter whom I have huge respect for, suggested I join her as a head hunter in the production space. Quickly I found just how much I understood the client's needs and also spoke the candidate's language – I mean, why wouldn't I? I've been in both their shoes after all.

It soon became apparent that I needed to do this for myself. I love the industry and all the talented people I've met and worked with. Building Curious Connections for myself has energised me and created a new sense of personal freedom. The plan is to bring all this together for creative businesses and also non-profit organisations seeking the energy that so much advertising talent has.

“Connection is why we’re here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives” Brene Brown.
